WampServer

I have WAMPserver 2 installed on an XP Pro system, and the setup went smoothly and without problem, but I find an irritating feature of the MySQL Console is that when logging in I am asked for a password only, in other words it is always assumed that I am logging in as root.

Even though I've created a new user and password account with PHPAdmin, I am not able to log on as this user within the MySQL Console because a username is never requested. How do I change this so that when the MySQL Console screen appears, I am prompted for Username AND password?
