mysql service not running

i've recently got a new dell laptop with windows vista home premium 32 bit. i tried running the latest wampserver version on that but the mysql service wont start. apache works fine. on checking the log file it says 'listen() on TCP/IP failed with error 6'. i've tried using xampp as well which leads to the same problem. earlier when i tried an earlier wamp version none of the services were running. help will be much appreciated.

Hi,

Is some other service already using TCP port 3306? Go to the command prompt and do:

'netstat -an | more

Look for the combination of a hostname and port 3306.

Tried that. No such program running. Also firewall is off so that doesnt interfere either.
