Could not execute menu item (internal error)

Hi:

Just installed Wampserver2.0 in my Vista and everything ran smoothly.

However, on our XP the system tray icon is in red.

It says WAMP5 - Server online. But we are unable to Start any services.

If we Restart All Service the meter turns from red to yellow, and then red again.

This is the error message:

"Could not execute menu item (internal error) [Exception] Could not perform service action: The service has not been started."

After that, we shutdown Panda Antivirus and tried to restart the service. No luck.

Then, we unistalled Wampserver 2.0 and delete also c:/wamp folder and restart.

Then, shutdown Panda and did a fresh install of Wamp. No luck.

We thought the problem could be with Panda, but now we have no clue.

Any clues?
Please help.

Charles

do you have any other versions of apache or mysql installed? if so you need to uninstall those extra programs and use wamp only. you should also preform a clean install of wamp.

1. uninstall wamp
2. delete the c:\wamp directory
3. restart pc
4. install wamp again.

Hi CyberSpatium!

Thanks for the reply.

Yes. Running in my Win XP.

Apache 1.3.29
MySQL 4.0.18 max-debug
PHP 4.3.6

Ok. Will uninstall those. However, have two questions.
I can't find an uninstall for Apache and MySQL. I did find Apache & MySQL under Control Panel/ Add/Remove Programs.

Is this the correct way to remove those?

Second question, I couldn't find PHP under Add/Remove Programs. So, the question is, what is the correct way to remove PHP?

Thanks,
Charles

I am also getting this error, both with wampserver2.0a and wampserver2.0b.
I have a pretty new machine, the only concern is that the primary partition is i:\ so my path is i:\wamp.
Is there anything in the config files that are hard coded to cmoody smiley
I've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times with different versions on a xp pro machine.
As far as I know, I'm not running any other apache services. All I have installed is battlefield 2, farcry, itunes, and azureus. google bar, and firefox, other than that, pretty clean machine.
I'm also unable to start the apache service.

Does this mean that I would need to remove XAMPP? I also have it installed.

This is really not a good thing, and not something to celebrate. I should be able to run WAMP with XAMPP installed (but not running). It works the other way around. The intend was to use WAMP (recommended by Lynda.com) to learn to use Joomla locally. I guess I would just end up using XAMPP for this, but for now I have resorted to working with Joomla remotely, right on the host server.

In fact, I think the problem is beyond a XAMPP conflict, because I have subsequently installed WAMP on a laptop with no host server installed, and I get a different error. CLI stops working every time (PHP logo next to the message) - happened on 2 different machines. I'm on WIndows 7 64-bit.

I think it is in your interest to provide prospective users, like me, with good solutions to these problems.

Ok, so I have been reading further and it seems webservers are generally mutually exclusive. My bad. But what then about the problem on the system with only WAMP installed, where the CLI crashes every time I start the server?

i.e.

- Open WAMP server and click on its icon at bottom-right corner
- Go to Apache > httpd.conf
- Search for Listen ….
- Edit the port “80″ to something else
This will tell WAMP Server to use a different port

If using Skype, open Skype > Tools > Options > Advanced > Connection then uncheck "use port 80..." restart Wamp then Skype

BTW, you should start a new thread or post comment on the newer thread since this thread is way too old winking smiley

Try disabling Web Deployment Agent Service. That's what did it for me.
