Install Problem IIS/Apache

I originally tried setting up MySQL/PHP/Apache manually but couldn't get all three running together. I did howver have a partial fix with IIS running. I heard about WAMP and thought this would be a way of solving my problems.

When I run WAMP services such as MYSQLAdmin all I get is a "page cannot be accessed" message. When I run localhost I get two windows - a Windows XP Professional window saying "your web service is now running" and another window with IIS 5.1 Documentation.

Two questions 1) Is the fact that I didn't remove the original MySQL/PHP/Apache before running the WAMp installer cause a problem 2) How can I make WAMP Apache the default server for localhost?

I should say also that my technical level is very close to beginner :-) so any plain English help would be very, very wlecome.

Thanks,

tel1

If you are reviewing a IIS documentation maybe you are running IIS :|.

Go to Control panel and Add/Remove programs. Then go to Add/Remove windows components (left hand menu). Make sure Internet Information Services ISN'T ticked.

If you are still having problems maybe it is that you haven't removed the Apache service. But I will tell you that if you have more problems.

Asho,

Thank you for that. I deleted IIS and all previous versions of Apache/PHP/MySQL then uninstalled WAMP and then re-installed. This time everything went well and I can call up phpMyAdmin and create databases and tables.

The only problem I have now is that when I mouse over the icon in the system tray I get a message saying "All services running - server offline". I also get, I think, a related message when I try to make a MySQL Connection in Dreamweaver when I try to search for the database which is:-
1) There is no testing server running on the server machine
2) The testing server specified for this site does not map to the http//local/_mmServerScripts/MMHTTPDB.php URL. Verify that the URL Prefix maps to the root of the site.

I am using c:\wamp\www\site folder\ as my root folder.

Once again thank you for your initial help

the all servers are offline means wamp is running but wamp is only accessible by localhost (you) on your local computer (where you have wamp installed) using [localhosdt]. if you put wamp in online mode then it is accessible to everyone useing your IP address [your.ip.address.here]

for security concerns do not put wamp in online mode.
