Documentroot Add-on

Is there an add-on to simply change your documentroot?

Now I have to manually change it for each project and restart the apache server, but wouldn't it be nice if there was a feature that you could select the folder that would serve as DocumentRoot from your Tray Menu?

The reason why I ask this, is because I make all my websites with the rewriteEngine so the URL's will be nicely formed. But to test during developing the site's root must be [localhost], and not [localhost]

Any ideas / suggestions? Or perhaps information on how to write my own add-on?
