installing wamp with mysql preinstalled

I already have a MySQL installation running [had been used for something other than web], but when I install WAMP afterwards, WAMP can't start the MySQL service, giving me the following error:

Quote

Could not execute menu item (internal error)
[Exception] Could not perform server action:
The service has not been started.

I'd like to use the pre-existing MySQL server, what changes do I need to make?

Thank you.

you cannot have two versions of apache or mysql installed. you need to uninstall what ever extra programs you have

As I noted, I'd like to use the pre-existing MySQL server. How do I uninstall WAMP's mySQL server, and have it use the pre-exisiting?

Thanks.
