waiting for localhost... for ever

Hi,
I'm completely new to this, but am keen to test out WAMP and Joomla and have spent a good couple of hours looking for an answer to this - with no avail.
When I install WAMP server on my Win XP Pro machine, and attempt to access localhost, firefox and IE just give me the message 'waiting for localhost'... and nothing ever happens.
Do I need to do something else before running the program?

Same here, wamp doesn't seem to find localhost and I've checked port 80 to be sure that my skype or any other application isn't using the port and it's clean. My firewalls is not blocking anything related to wamp.
Solution?
EDIT: I just tested the version right before the newest WAMP5 1.7.0 and the older version worked fine when 1.7.0 didn't work at all. That's the problem, it's something in 1.7.0 in my opinion.
