do you have any other copies of apache or mysql installed on your computer. apache needs port 80 open, so make sure you are not running skype of another webserver like another version of apache or iis.

Hi.

I too am having the same problem. I get is a 403 error when I browse [localhost]. The services seem to start up for a moment and then close down straight away.

History: Previously installed XAMMP on my new 'Vista' machine, which did not work. So I uninstalled XAMMP and installed WAMP.

Have tried to fix any firewall problems but I'm not sure about adding WAMP to the 'allow' list. What exe file should I add? (I use Norton 2007)

Also ran Test Port 80 with these results: "Server: Apache/2.2.3 <Win32> DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8d mod_autoindex_color PHP/5.2.0". Thing is I'm not sure whether this is in reference to my old installation of Apache under XAMMP or the new one under WAMP.

Please help. I would really like to get a server up and running for development purposes.

Cheers,
Craigypoos

yeah, you are running xammp, not wamp. you need to uninstall xammp, then totally remove the xammp folder.

Ah, therin lies a problem. I tried to delete the remaining XAMMP folder and a little box pops up telling me that I need permission to do that! (I can feel yet another Vista Headache coming on!)

I'm using vt too, but it's like more fun than headache. he he... he he.... ;-)

Just kidding, actually, when you gather all info needed, it would run as expected; the problem is how you search and gather needed info.

Have fun,

Reactivated UAC, deleted old XAMMP folders and re-disabled UAC. Everything looks lovely!

Thanks.

Disable uac is not really a good choice, check my old post here for the idea

I don't have WAMP set to run on start-up, so (having read that other post) I don't see the problem in disabling UAC.

However, either way, WAMP is not up and running and everything seems to be in order, until....

I try to view a page with a php include in it and then things go kaputz. (See this thread: [forum.wampserver.com] , about 6 postings down is my post.)

Any help would be most gratefully rec'd.
