Local Host Not Working

Hello,

Wondering if someone can point me to some troubleshooting tips/links. I have searched the web for hours on the problem, but cannot locate a solution. Or a good faq for troubleshooting.

My issue is that after installing WAMP, the services report to be running fine, however, Localhost / 127.0.0.1 will not load.

After entering the address, Both firefox & IE7 constantly indicate (in status bar):
"waiting for localhost" / "waiting for 127.0.0.1" or for IE:
"Website found. Waiting for reply..."

This occurred on a workstation running XP x64. This workstation has recently been wiped with a fresh install of all software with Vista x64. Same issue.

I have the identical issue with a new laptop. Its running 32bit version of Vista. Installed WAMP and identical problem.

I suspect it is perhaps a common piece of software that I run on both machines, although I do not run anything out of the ordinary and have attempted disabling various services, etc.

Appreciate any info or direction on some troubleshooting tips.

Thanks

Are you using the latest version 1.7.0 which is compatible w/ vista?

Yesterday, I've just installed wamp on my new vista laptop, huh... I mean my new Toshiba laptop I've just bought yesterday because I don't want to test new version on my primary and secondary servers which still run xp.

Remember, vista has change the way to control user through UAC (User Account Control), so you has to log in as administrator with full privilege, not as user with approved admin privileges. Also, has to setup to run wamp as admin privileges too, and if you want, either edit or turn off UAC so wamp can work properly

Appreciate the reply. However, I did install 1.7 with full admin privledges on both machines (x64 & laptop32-bit). Both have same issue with not displaying localhost.

Hi. The account I have (only one) is Administrator. I select the WAMP .exe and choose: Run as Administrator...

That means you log in as user with approved admin privileges. I guess you should spend a little time to google around then.

Ok, so did you disable UAC, and also check windows firewall and defender to make sure they don't lock wamp?

What is UAC?

Yes, i have disabled all services via MSCONFIG, and also disabled all startups and rebooted on all three machines this problem is occuring on. Tried selectively disabling service by service on one machine to check conflicts. All firewalls (hardware and softtware removed/disabled). Internet connections disabled.

I have not adjusted Windows Defender on any of the machines. Although, they do have that piece of software in common on all 3. Ill take a look at it. Appreciate your time.

UAC (User Account Control) is a new feature that's only comes w/ vista and supposes to protect your system from unwanted auto installation which also immediately switch your log in as admin w/ full privileges to standard user w/ admin approved privileges; however, most people think it's more annoying than a protector, so if you can't edit it, better shut it down.

I believe you're admin, and as a real admin with full privileges in vista, you will not get any pop up when attempting to install any apps, won't you?

You installed it on vista. Did you get a popup? I do not know enough about Vista. If there is a SUPER-Admin which doesnt have popups, I do not know about it. I have the user set to Administrator in User Groups, and run the .exe : "Run as Administrator..." -- WAMP is running. Its just not working properly

Vista is new, most of people, except beta testers and of course folks at M$, are still in learning stage.

Pop-up in vista, yes, when I've first started my laptop, but after google around and setup to gain back my full admin privileges, no more pop-up for permission, and that is the point I've tried to tell you because even in windows login and in control panel after login, it shows that you are ADMIN but actually, it already switch you to user w/ admin approved privileges; thus, every time attempting to install anything, you get pop-up to get admin permission. I'm not completely sure about this but I'm afraid it somewhat affect wamp to work properly.

Anyway, I've already posted solution, but you might want to google around for better ideas, I guess

BTW, did you setup wamp run as admin through UAC or just simple right click and check to run as admin? If in second case, it will not completely run as admin as you thought.

yfastud: thanks for your time, but this is Not a solution to the issue. Tried disabling. No help.

For anyone following the thread that wants info on what yfastud is referring to, its some permissions set in GPEDIT.MSC |additional info: [jdanger.wordpress.com]

however, the problem still exists with localhost. Not working.

Mine is working w/o any problem, and I even already upgrade MySQL from 5.0.27 to 5.1.3 and phpMyAdmin from 2.9.2 to 2.10.0, and they're still performing great as seen in screenshots

Since wamp is a very good package, so every time friend or co-worker want to have own server and ask me for help, I've always install wamp for them, and so far on more than 50 machines w/ different brands and os, and the lastest os is vista on my laptop. They're all working w/o any problem so far, so I don't know what else I can say but good luck to you then

Having exact same problem. Did you come up with a solution? I hate, HATE spinning my wheels to stay in place when I should be developing.

What did you do to get a working Apache, MySQL, PHP sserver going?

Thanks

To redundant :
Hey, I didn't mean to piss you off or something. Actually, I've tried my best to help you out but sorry it doesn't work out. That's why I've already stated "I don't know what else I can say but good luck to you then"

To asherritt:
Everybody has different idea, but to me, when I decide to use the unit for developing, the first thing when took my brand new laptop out of the box, and of course after all initial setup, I immediately uninstall all add-on apps, so right now on my new laptop has only 4 soft that are vista, mcafee, notepadplus and wamp. Similarly, on my primary and secondary desktop servers have only 4 apps as listed. W/ this setup, I've jsut wanted to make sure that nothing might interfere my server in any way. Hope it makes sense to you.
