Did you enable port 80 in all firewalls, and also forward port 80 in router if using router? BTW, if using <? instead <?php, enable short_open_tag through tray icon.

After uninstall previous wamp, did you search and delete all related apache, mysql, php, wampapache, wampmysql in windows AND in registry before installing new wamp?

i disabled firewall or anything that could be a firewall

I know that previously Visual Studio and WAMP worked together side by side, but currently i was testing Netbeans of SUN and this could create some error between Apache and Tomcat.

dunno

Hi,

Realize you reverted to an earlier version and it fixed your problem...but if you ever narrow down what the cause was will you please post it?

I have had this issue with a couple of xp machines and now two Vista machines (one x64).

Same problem...endless "Waiting for reply..." Days of searching for a fix. Nada.

Thanks

Installed WAMP5 1.6.6. Same problem, localhost just sits there. I turned off the Windows Firewall. IIS is disabled.

Did the whole reinstall with deleting all the keys from the registry.

What am I missing? I'd like to get started working and this is driving me nuts.

Could post alot of things i have tried...but, dont see the point. Quick glance in thee forum and saw two similar posts in the forum (one started by me though):

[forum.wampserver.com]

[forum.wampserver.com]

For me, I have 3 different machines with different OS' (x64 vista, xp, and 32bit vista) all exhibitiing this behavior. One machine is not on the same network and I know its not a router / hard-ware firewall issue.

I am curious if you have Tried XAMPP? I did on one machine. It also had this SAME problem with XAMPP.

Have a feeling its something really simple and stupid...but Its got me stumped.

Do you have ZoneAlarm, Skypes, internet optimizer, or anything that might block port 80?

Personally, I install various version of wamp in more than 50 different brand computers for friends and every time encounter problem similar like this, I've always check those apps that mentioned above and mostly found the cause is from one of them.

Got a recommendation for a Port Monitor/Checker? Something besides NetSTAT ?

Yeah I tried XAMPP too. Same problem. I had it installed successfuly a while ago, same computer different hard drive.

One funny thing, when I run the TEST PORT 80 exe under the APACHE apps from the WAMP server, it gives me this output: "Your port 80 is actually used by: " then it's blank.
Should I try running WAMP is WIndows Safe Mode?

I'm not using anything like Skype or internet optimizers as far as I know, unless there's some stupid adware or google toolbar thing that's getting in the way.

IIS i running on port 80 by default, too, so you might want to check it out. BTW, try to change "listen 80" in httpd.conf to "listen 81" or to "listen 8080"; then, restart your server. Also enable associated port, 81 or 8080, in firewalls as well.

I disabled IIS. I changed the "listen" to port 81 and when I ran the "Test port 80" app I got the notice "Port 80 is not actually used" which would say to me that there is nothing else listening on that port.

The mystery continues...

Well, I did similar things as Asherritt did, with the same results.

Listening to different ports (81, 8080, etc) just caused the "Waiting for reply..." to occur on that port for the browser.

Similarly, the "Port 80 is not acutally used" message was displayed. Whereas, when listening to port 80 I get the same message Asherritt gets (on all computers with this issue).

NETSTAT -AO shows nothing else is listening in on port 80.

DITTO: Mystery continues ... (sigh). Something with Apache i guess...?

So to me, it seems iis run on port 80 before. Now after disable iis, did you try to run wamp on port 80 again? For testing, you might want as well to temporary disable all firewalls including windows firewall.

hey asherritt

Well, found the problem as it relates to me. Its NOD32 Anti-Virus. Although I had tried turning NOD32 off after bootup, and disabling its related Service(s) when troubleshooting, this proved to not be enough.

A complete uninstall of this software resolved the problem. Oddly enough, I have had NOD32 coexist with WAMP before...Now to troubleshoot NOD32. Ill let you know if i find out more. Love this anti-virus software, so hope to get it working with wamp again...

Using NOD32? It has an IMON (Internet Monitor) Simply disabling that portion of the software was not enough to resolve the problem. That feature is suspect though.

--EDIT--
I reinstalled NOD32 (v 1.7) using its Expert Install option (3rd option). This install procedure asks alot of questions. Basically I went ahead and turned on all features EXCEPT for IMON. Got it installed and updated to latest definitions. Its working fine and so is WAMP.

Interestingly, when you run "Test Port 80" from WAMP, it no longer has the truncated message. It properly indicates its used by Apache.

Its also interesting that when examining ports with NETSTAT, only Apache's PID was reported as monitoring port 80. IMON may not filter port 80, but however it "examines" port 80...it does it in a way that most programs including NETSTAT do not report.

Taker easy
