BEFORE READING - I'm not the webmaster here, or any person on the Staff. I'm just trying to hep you newbies out. I was a newbie once and I know it can be pretty complicated getting things to work.
And as newbies everything you read, you go ahead and do without thinking of the consequences - so here, please read the following before you start crying and pulling out your hair...
/////
/ NOTE - The following is for SEPARATE installs of Apache and MySQL, not
/ under the umbrella of the WAMP program. As it has been mentioned before, WAMP
/ should be used for testing purposes ONLY and not for grand-scale production use.

(I hope the Staff is okay with this little gem of wisdom...)
Q: MySQL/Apache won't install as a Service.
A: This might be due to a borked install, or multiple installs in the attempt to get it working. STOP installing itself - you're not going to make it work by brute force. Drop to your command prompt and type <servicename> -remove (For Apache, type apache -remove for MySQL type mysql -remove
This will REMOVE either Service from the queue. Next, uninstall said Service with it's uninstaller - DO NOT just yank the folder out. Take a deep breath and reinstall your Service as normal. This should be your golden ticket.
Q: <Application> does not work.
A: You need to state WHAT is wrong with it. Does it boot, do you get an error, does it beep or dance, does your hair turn white? Please be EXACT on what your problem is. Its' like going to the Doctor and telling him you hurt. So, by not knowing he removes your heart. Fun day, being dead and all huh?
Q: I'd like to run a Server...
A: BEFORE you get all crazy using this fine product (WAMP) - if you're thinking of making your box a FULL-TIME/production Server - you need to STOP and make sure you have PERMISSION from your ISP. A lot of ISP's DO NOT ALLOW Servers being run on their system. You can be in direct violation of their Terms of Service.. You can lose your account, be cited for "damages" and whatever they can think of. You've seen those utility signs: "CALL BEFORE DIGGING"? Call them before going live 24/7.
Q: Do I need to take down my firewall/virus scanner?
A: NO! NO! NO! NEVER take them down for anything. If you're running a web server, make sure that ONLY port 80 is accessible to and from your machine. If you don't know the port number of the service you're going to host DON'T make up a number. 80 is the standard for HTTP traffic.
Q: Can I contact you for help?
A: Sure - ask these wonder Staff people of WAMP, if they are really busy - drop me a Yahoo IM at RVRNET1. I'll see what I can do for you.
WAMPs' a great product - donate if you can!
