Upgrading

I am currently using WAMP 1.6.5 and have noticed that 1.6.6 is up. I have no need to upgrade just at present but it got me thinking that I should know in advance how to perform the upgrade.
I have had a quick look around the site but can't find any specific instructions.
Is it simply a case of running the installer for the newer version and following the onscreen instructions?
Obviously, I will back-up first but SHOULD the new installation keep the existing settings, or will configs etc need replacing after the install?

if everything is working correctly there is no reason to upgrade.
