inserting other file formats into database

i'm having problems inserting images, and other file formats into a database i created with myphpadmin. can anyone help me out?

it would just be way easier to just store all your images in a special folder, and then store the location to those images in your database. images are binary and use tons of space if you save the actual image in your database. this could make it start running very slowly. plus it takes longer to load an image from your database then one located locally in your web directory.
