WampServer

i am running wampserver on a laptop and using it to run a web based program locally on this machine. after the information has been entered into the program and saved to the localhost database it needs to be uploaded to the main server. Once with in internet range the local machine needs to sync with the main server and update the mysql data. I am getting an error stating that i am unable to access the main servers mysql database. I think i have a problem with a remote connection. If i open up port 3306 on the main server firewall with this resolve this problem?
