can't open phpMyAdmin?

hi,
when i switch php 5 to php 4 is no problem but next i open phpMyadmin, i see message error. "Error
MySQL said: Documentation
#1251 - Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client."
what does it means?
