Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else already.

OK, so I've just installed WAMP5. Apache install went fine and it appears to be working.

Tried to install the MySQL service from the menu. Nothing happened at all.

I then clicked on the MySQL console menu option. It asked for a password and I just pressed enter. The computer beeped and something flashed on the console although I couldn't see it.

Opened PMA. It said that the server isn't responding (#2003). Well, duh, it isn't installed.

What do I do?

Did you disable windows firewall yet? If using third-party firewall like Norton, McAfee, remember to enalbe port 80.

mysql uses port 3306, not 80. so make sure that port is allowed by your firewall too.

I didn't disable windows firewall but I did allow the MySQL application access. I will double-check the settings though. The thing is, it just won't install at all. Nothing happens at all when I click the install MySQL menu item.

what version of windows do you have?

I had that problem too, I had installed Wamp in C:\Program Files then I only reinstalled it in C:\ and it solved without doing anything else... sorry about my english, I am still learning

I'm running XP SP2

WAMP is installed at the root of my C:\ drive

if you have windows XP pro, 2000 or 2003 make sure IIS is not running or apache will not start. skype uses port 80 too, so make sure it is not running or it will cause apache to not start.
