Current configuration with problems

Updated to 3.3.7 on 2025-04-09
Apache 2.4.62.1 Port 80 - PHP 8.1.31
MySQL 5.7.14 Port 3306
PHP 8.1.31 for Wampserver's internal PHP scripts

So I have an old site that needs to use SSL
I had a ton of problems so I upgraded Apache from 2.4.23 to 2.4.62.1

After the switch I cannot access the main site or thru localhost (localhost downloads the index.php)
Any thoughts on what I am missing? If I switch back to the .23 (only change) everything works fine.. I am new to wamp so be gentle!

I spun up another domain with ssl on a different box (fresh install) without any issues so I think I have the basics down but am stumped with this particular issue.. Any thoughts on where to go from here?

Apache 2.4.23 dates from July 2016, almost ten years ago. Ten years ago, certain Apache 2.2 and 2.3 tags such as Order, Allow and Deny were still widely used.
With recent versions of Apache, in order to use these tags, you need to load the mod_access_compat module.

Thanks for the reply!.. That module is enabled and the problem still persists.. I know it must be very simple. Any other thoughts? Here are the httpd and httpd-vhosts files that get loaded with the new version.

Hi,

The httpd.conf file does not correspond at all to the original Apache 2.4.62.1 file.

You leave the httpd.conf file as it is without modifying anything in it and, if you have any modifications or prohibitions to add, you make them in your VirtualHost.

Your changes prevent access to the Wampserver home page 'http://localhost/'.

That was me trying everything as I am new to webdev. I also took these from a different box that has the same version of apache working fine with the same site.
the main diff is the box that works with .62.1 is windows 10 and the box that does not work (has no errors) is server 2016

So with these it does that same thing!

If you want to use older versions of PHP, it is much better to use FCGI mode and leave Apache module mode with the original PHP version, i.e. for Wampserver 3.3.7, PHP 8.3.14.
In addition, FCGI mode allows you to use different PHP versions for the same local site, of course with different ServerNames.

Either start with a fresh installation of Wampserver 3.3.7, or replace the modified Apache files with the original ones in the :
c:\wamp64\bin\apache2.4.62.1\conf\original\wampserver\

You install the old PHP versions you want, for example :
PHP 5.6.40
If you want older versions, I can supply them on request.

Once everything is back in order, go to the Wampserver home page 'http://localhost/' and then the Add a VirtualHost page.

- Name of the Virtual Host
www.xxxx.internal
- Complete absolute path of the VirtualHost folder
c:/Users/xxxx
But it's a very bad idea to use a system folder, which is customised and may not have the access rights you want. Your local sites can be anywhere, even on another partition.

Choose the PHP version, for example 5.6.40

Button : Start the creation of the VirtualHost

Right-Click -> Tools -> Restart DNS

Then you can access your local site via 'http://www.xxx.internal/'.
