cant run php instructions

i have a dell inspiron 6000 w/ xp home edition sp2, i already install wamp5_1.6.4 on the system, i open i.e 6.0.29 and when i put in the address bar the localhost the wamp index.php page opens but when I try to execute some instructions from php, from a php file only the html codes execute.. please help

try modifying the opening tag to ... <?php and not just <?, I had the same problem this seems to work.
