Major Newbie- LocalHost Issue

Hi there.
I am following a tutorial from Lynda.com on how to use WAMP. I have installed WAMP 1.64 on a Win XP PRo PC with firewalls turned off. When I type in [localhost] I get a " Do you want to save this file?" question. So basically it won't do anything.

I am a web designer and am BRAND new to the PHP world.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Install, uninstall and re-install too many times on many differents computers but never see this problem, so the question is besides firewall, has anything else in your computer might cause that problem.

Make sure apache is running when you try to access localhost. have you edited your httpd.conf or php.ini file at all?

Okay.. I'm about to give up and that is just not my style. sad smiley
To make a long story short, I'm a sys admin/tech support/ web designer. I work for a very small company that I am abou to leave and am trying to finish an IntrAnet for them.

I have a really nice intranet built and I they have a need for a few forms. I can create the forms easily but I need to get the "Submit button" to work. So I learned a little bit about PHP and that I need to get a server running.

So I installed WAMP on a XP Pro SP2 PC and am now stuck. I've been reading for HOURS and am more lost than I was to begin with. Now the Apache service won't start either..and it was before.

I can now honestly say that I give a LOT of credit to the Apache/Mysql/PHP admins.

I just want the little button on my forms to work.....that is all.

If you want to have a button to use with form, why not use html/javascript instead.
For wamp, as mention before, there must be something in your system that prevents wamp to work. Better start with an unit that only has windows, then merge with your network then figure out the problem for there.
Hope this help

if you have no expereince programming in any language, and new to web development, I too would say use an already made javascript or AJAX to submit your form.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have made progress! I un/reinstalled WAMP and I have all the services running now. I even have the WAMP 5 page come up when I launch Local host. Woo-hoo!

As far as coding the submit button, I found this tutorial
[www.dreamweaverclub.com]
and am trying to make it work. I have additional questions but I will start a new post as the topics are changing now. (which is a good thing because it shows progress).

Thanks for ALL of the advice.... EVERY bit helped! :-)

Shooga, what's your aim/msn? I could help you out with your form. I've got about 3 years experience with php and I'd like to help because I remember when I started out it was a nightmare. So give me a shout at aim: heelflip747 or austingym at gmail dot com I'd be glad to help.
