WampServer

I just installed the latest wamp, added a root password to MySQL, and phpMyAdmin is telling me, "#1251 - Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client". I added the password to $cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] in config.inc.php and restarted MySQL. I can get into MySQL through the console (command-line utility) but phpMyAdmin can't connect (it worked fine before I added the password).
