Ron,

There are lots of things in your wamp folder that are not provided by WAMPServer.

A standard wamp folder looks like this

5/02/2019 14:26 <DIR> .
15/02/2019 14:26 <DIR> ..
12/03/2019 15:41 <DIR> alias
12/03/2019 15:41 <DIR> apps
21/03/2019 09:07 <DIR> tmp
15/04/2018 13:15 <DIR> bin
15/04/2018 13:14 <DIR> cgi-bin
13/01/2019 17:01 <DIR> scripts
20/02/2019 17:31 <DIR> composer

15/04/2018 13:14 1,401,117 unins000.exe
27/09/2017 16:31 181 uninstall_services.bat
15/03/2019 14:46 2,707 wampmanager.conf
03/09/2008 14:46 1,233,408 wampmanager.exe
21/03/2019 08:56 588,481 wampmanager.ini
13/01/2019 09:56 28,308 wampmanager.tpl
06/11/2015 10:00 8,156 licence.txt

Now I have an additional folder in my WAMP folder called `composer` so just adding a folder of your own does not cause the install any issues.

You do appear to have the file

unins000.dat
unins000.exe
unins001.dat
unins001.exe

duplicated. Indicating that something odd has happened. Possibly you installed the 64bit WAMPServer into the old 32bit WAMPServer folder.
I have never tried that, for obvious reasons, but could that be what you have done?

Thanks for the response. I think the extra unins00~.exe and dat files, which supposedly are uninstall files, were likely introduced in the last update, because it was not a full install, not sure. I don't recall there ever being just one since that last update. I do admit occasionally some stray non-Wamp files may end up in the Wamp root, but I try to keep it clean. I will use your listing to cleanup a bit. But I suspect I cannot delete the 'unins00..' files?

As to 64 bit, the initial install, quite a while ago, was 32 bit, v2.5. Then, also at least a year ago, I used the update from 2.5 to 3.0, and then the update from 3.0.x to 3.1.1, I believe. That update file contained both 64 and 32 bit, and self-detects which variety, since there is not an option to choose.

The same is true of this update to 3.1.7 exe; there is no option to choose 32 or 64.

I will say, without remembering detail since so long ago, I think I had difficulty installing 64 bit on v2.5 , which I tried first, and then fell back to 32 bit.

Are you suggesting I need to start with a full install of 32 or maybe 64 bit? My current installation is working fine, in spite of the extra files, and a full install is a bit more effort, considering I would have to reinstall my TNG (the next generation of genealogy software) . I was just trying to stay up to date on Wamp, and the last update went so very smooth from 3.0 to 3.1.1. I prefer to wait until I have to, ..or could do a trial run on my 'backup/mirror' laptop.

Thanks for your help.

Update: I just noticed a couple new folders in the webspace 'www' folder, 'wamplangue, and wamptheme, so it appears some files were updated, however, the tray icon and 'about' remain unchanged as 3.1.1.
I just think that final 'housekeeping' task was not completed in the update from 3.1.1 to 3.1.7.

Ron

So, no response to my last note re: new folders in 'www' , but 3.1.1 still indicated instead of 3.1.7?

Hi,

Wampserver updates, whatever they may be, do not create or add any uninstall files.

> The same is true of this update to 3.1.7 exe; there is no option to choose 32 or 64.
The choice to update 32-bit or 64-bit versions if both are installed depends only on the registry uninstall keys.
If these keys are present you will be asked on which version the update should be performed:

If these keys are not present, you will be asked in which folder the update should be performed.
Registry keys are with Windows 64 bit:
- For Wampserver 32 bit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{wampserver32}_is1
- For Wampserver 64 bit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{wampserver64}_is1

What I would advise you to do is to backup your local sites and databases and then uninstall your versions of Wampserver and then reinstall Wampserver 3.1.7 and restore your local sites and databases.

OK, so the multiple unins files may be from original installs. I only have one version of Wampserver, which is 32 bit. The 3.1.7 update only asked to confirm the folder it found, which was correctly displaying the existing Wamp root. I didn't get the popup 32/64 choice, which means I don't have any registry keys. So the update exe file must be determining which version by examination of existing Wamp folder files. Just strange it completed w/o incident but left some things unchanged.

I may delay the full install approach at this time, since no pressing need, just considering staying current and head off future requirements of php, and my application. I have image backups of all files, but is there documented procedure for the sql db backup and restore? My application, TNG genealogy, does provide backup of all db tables which can be restored.

Thanks again for the help. Based on responses, it appears only a full install will cleanup the WampServer installation. Perhaps I will have success with the 64 bit installation. I do have the luxury of trying this on my secondary backup device/laptop which has identical configuration and files.

Hi,

> I didn't get the popup 32/64 choice, which means I don't have any registry keys.
No.
You didn't have the popup of choice because you only have one version of Wampserver, the 32-bit version.
The chosen popup is only displayed if you have both 32 and 64 bit versions of Wampserver.
It is also the same principle for adding applications like PhpMyAdmin, Admin or PhpSysInfo: there will only be the popup of choice if you have both versions of 32 and 64 bit Wampserver.

With a 64 bit Windows, you can install 64 bit Wampserver in addition to your 32 bit Wampserver, this will not change your already installed 32 bit version.
The only constraint is that it is imperative to launch only one version at a time. If you have started 32-bit Wampserver and would like to start 64-bit Wampserver, it is imperative to first exit the current 32-bit version.

With both 32-bit and 64-bit Wampserver versions, if your local sites are declared as VirtualHost, they can be common to both 32-bit and 64-bit Wampserver versions, there is no need to duplicate them.
On the other hand, even with the same versions of MySQL 32 and 64 bit, databases cannot be common.
