Update Wampserver 3.1.7
Posted by: Pisco (---.dynamic.dsl.as9105.com)

Hi, this is the first time I will update Wampserver and although I checked the wampserver.aviatechno page I still have lots of doubts. I started building my website and I don't know how to back up my files, hence I am a wee bit concerned about uninstalling my old version of Wampserver (3.1.4). Could anybody explain me how I can back up my files, please. What happens with all the plugins and themes you install in Wordpress?
Would not be better to install the addons individually or it just will take more time to do the same thing?
I've almost forgotten how I installed wordpress, so I will also appreciate if you could remember me the steps to follow or link me a webpage where it is explained I it would be very helpful.
Thanks a lot for your time

Hi,

It is an update of Wampserver files. It does not modify your configuration. You don't need to uninstall.

Hi,

You don't need to know where Wampserver files are. You run (as an administrator) the update 3.1.7 exe and all files will be updated automatically.

Hi,

Can you start your own NEW Thread please.
This has nothing to do with the context of this Thread

Start your Thread with the answers to these questions [forum.wampserver.com]

Then tell us anything and everything that you have changed since the initial install of WAMPServer

Hi,

So let me see if I understood right: If I want to update my WampServer I have to go to wampserver.aviatechno.net/ and then on the wampserver updates I have to click to the 3.1,7 and run it. Is that right?
I won't need update anything else aside?

Yes,

Under
Wampserver Updates

click on Wampserver update 3.1.7

Download the update, run the update.

This will only change WAMPServers own internal code and effect NOTHING as far as the versions of Apache/PHP/MySQL/mariadb that you currently have installed. Nor will it change which versions of these you are currently using.

It is purely a WAMPServer internals update.

But normal RULES APPLY. Make sure you always have a backup of your site code and your databases before changing anything But thats just sensible daily practice anyway

Ok, thanks.

I thought when I would update Wampserver, it will update automatically Apache/PHP/MySQL/mariadb. I also have to update all these versions. Do I have to do the same as for Wampserver, going to the addons section? If so, I am running x64, Do I have to download both 32 and 64?
I guess the last version is always at the bottom, the one has the big number, isn't it?

No
If you are using WampServer 32 download the 32bit versions
If you are using WampServer 64bit download only 64bit versions

I didn't update Mariadb and MySql yet, as I don't know if will affect my website. The important reminder below MariaDB made me hesitate.

How should I update them?

I found PhpSysInfo at aviatechno.net and I checked my wampserver and I don't have it. What's that? Do I need to install it too?

Thanks

The download and install of the new versions of ANY addon, WILL NOT effect what you are currently running within WAMPServer.

Once you download and install the new version, you will still be using the current versions of Apache/Mysql/PHP.

You should then Backup (Export) your database from the current version (put somewhere safe) and then switch versions using the wampmanager icon menus

Then restore the database(s) and recreate any user accounts yo may have been using.

The old version of MySQL for example will still be available, so if you miss one database lets say, you can just switch back to the old version and snag another backup. Then switch back to the new version and restore it.

Used the update Wampserver (was 3.1.1) to 3.1.7. (only one update file available, had both 32 and 64 in the exe). Understood that nothing but Wampserver is update, not apache etc. But why isn't even the version updated in the Windows 10 'W' popup? Still indicates 3.1.1. Even the 'about' shows 3.1.1. Where do I make sure it is update?

When I did the update from 3.0, it did change the version to 3.1.1, but not this update.

Hi,

All Wampserver update must change the version number.
If version number is not changed means that the update is not correct.
As for all update and addons, exe must be launched as an administrator, I.e. Right-click then run as an administrator.

Yes, I did right click, run as administrator (twice now) this exe wampserver3_x86_x64_update3.1.7.exe, all proceeded normally, said finished, but, no change to version. 'About' shows 3.1.1, as does popup with left click on systray.

Wampmanager.exe has date of 9/3/2008, shortcut wampserver shortcut has date of 6/28/2018.

It detected proper folder/directory to install where v.3.1.1 is, and copies initiated, but doesn't seem anything updated. Iused software 'Everything' to scan entire system for any other Wamp files, but none. Wampmanager.ini dated 9/2018 ,
;WAMPCONFIGSTART
ImageList=images_off.bmp
ServiceCheckInterval=1
ServiceGlyphRunning=13
ServiceGlyphPaused=14
ServiceGlyphStopped=15
TrayIconAllRunning=16
TrayIconSomeRunning=17
TrayIconNoneRunning=18
ID={wampserver}
AboutHeader=WAMPSERVER 3.1.1 32bit
AboutVersion=Version 3.1.1
;WAMPCONFIGEND

Puzzling. Last update so smooth. This one, nothing happens. v3.1.1 still there.

I did find a 'wampmanager.conf in the Wamp root dir, which looks correct and has current date though:
[main]
language = "english"
status = "offline"
wampserverVersion = "3.1.7"
installDir ="R:/Wamp"
;Path of the Browser used by Wampserver
;May be modfied with the absolute path of the browser exe file
;(Use / instead of \)
navigator ="C:/Program Files (x86)/Mozilla Firefox/firefox.exe"
;Path of the Text Editor used by Wampserver
;May be modfied with the absolute path of the Text Editor exe file
;(Use / instead of \)
editor ="C:/WINDOWS/notepad.exe"
defaultLanguage = english
wampserverMode= "32bit"

But is the 'conf' file even being used at all? Is there an install log to look at?

Ron

Hi,

As wampmanager.conf reflect 3.1.7, the update 3.1.7 is done.
Wampmanager.ini is recreated each time Wampserver is launched or refresh (Right-click Refresh).

OK, wampmanager.conf is updated and that is good, ..but you say, wampmanaer.ini is updated everytime it is launched. Well, I've refreshed or rebooted several times since my post, and the ini file remains at 3.1.1, not 3.1.7, so it either it fails to refresh that file, ..or the update was not complete.

Is there any other way to prove It is on 3.1.7? Perhaps compare wampmanager.exe files before and after (I have two laptops with Wamp installed, one is still on 3.1.1.

Hi,

Wampmanager.exe is never changed with updates.
Are you sure that you have only one install of Wampserver ?
Are you sure that the file wampmanager.conf updated is in the same folder of wampmanager.ini you see.?

As I am not at home, It is diffcult to write long explanations with a Smartphone.

Sorry to bother you; just seems to be a bug somewhere with update 3.1.1 to 3.1.7, because there were no errors, said finished update.

Tried placing the update exe in the R: Drive, ran it there, same results.
