Hello,

I need your help, my Wampserver is not working.
Here is a message:

Sorry,

There is an error.

The C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file
has 15666 lines
that's far too much for proper operation.
The role of the hosts file is to serve as local DNS,
i. e. to give the connections between local IPs and ServerNames.
Its purpose is absolutely not to be used for filtering unwanted urls.

Press ENTER to continue...

Could you help me, please?
Thank you very much.

Hi,

You clean up your hosts file to leave only the next two lines and nothing else.
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost
There may be additional lines, but only if you use VirtualHost.

I know this is a slightly old threaad, but if you see that error produced by WAMPP, just ignore it, the hosts file CAN and DOES get used for blocking unwanted websites, it's used by Spybot Search & Destroy, I have 15622 lines in hosts file put there by Search & Destroy, and I'm damned if I'm going to remove them and allow unwanted sites, just for the sake of WAMPP,,, anyway, even though I have that many entries in the hosts file, WAMPP still works.

So if anyone sees that message from WAMPP just ignore it.
