Not if I pay somebody to do it .... You may have gathered that I'm struggling. For me this is like learning a piece of Rachmaninoff with a book on the Rudiments of Music in the other hand.

I can't uninstall Avast until I've found an AV to replace it.

I may be gone some time.

I've now uninstalled Avast. Still can't open WAMP.

Hi,

Avast does not always uninstall correctly using the standard Windows method. It is best to uninstall it with its uninstaller utility that can be found here:

> Still can't open WAMP
What exactly is happening? What is the error message?

I did use the uninstall tool, and deleted a couple of Program Files that got overlooked.

Otherwise, as previously. WAMP icon is green, shortcut briefly flashes a cmd window.

Hi,

It is normal. It is not a shortcut. It is a tray icon.

> briefly flashes a cmd window.
It is normal.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM ?

I assume that the Desktop shortcut is supposed to open WAMP. Clicking on it produces no result other than a brief cmd window. As has been the case from the start.

Hi,

You have already been told previously that there are two drop-down menus with a simple left or right click on the Wampmanager icon located in the notification area of the task bar.

You have also been told previously to read the file : wamp(64)/instructions_for_use.pdf

Did you look at ALL OF THE SYSTEM TRAY area.

Click the ^ arrow to the left of the system tray VISIBLE AREA to see if the WAMPServer icon is there. If it is drag it out onto the VISIBLE AREA of the system tray.

Thank you. As I said above, "Afraid I've failed to find wamp(64)\instructions_for_use.pdf" I tried locating it by Google search, with no success. I'd love to read the instructions, if I knew where they were.

Yes, I've seen the icon in the System Tray, and the two menus.

What I did find in Google was advice to 'Test localhost.' I clicked on locahost in the left-click menu, and got a message which said, "Warning: chmod(): Permission denied in C:\wamp64\scripts\config.inc.php on line 122".

The bottom of the window said, 'Intranet Settings are turned off by default.' There was a button labelled, 'Turn on Intranet Settings.'

Hi,

> I'd love to read the instructions, if I knew where they were.
This is a pdf file that is copied into the Wampserver installation folder and possibly updated with Wampserver updates.
When I wrote:
wamp(64)\instructions_for_use.pdf
it means that this file is :
c:\wamp\instructions_for_use.pdf
for a 32-bit installation in C:\wamp
or :
c:\wamp64\instructions_for_use.pdf
for a 64-bit installation in C:\wamp64

> Warning: chmod(): Permission denied in C:\wamp64\scripts\config.inc.php on line 122"
This means that the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file is read-only and it is not possible to modify this by program.
You must remove the read-only part of this file "by hand" using the (Note 2) of TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
