READ (and answer) BEFORE YOU ASK A QUESTIONFrom what you indicate, it would seem that you did it the right way, i.e. create a VirtualHost to install WordPress.

VirtualHost and its associated folder must exist and be valid BEFORE you want to install Wordpress.
Then, after copying the Wordpress files into this folder, the installation must be started via the ServerName (local site name) assigned to this WordPress installation.
