wampmariadb not started Error code: 1057

I just installed Wamp (new install) and I have an orange icon. I've went through the troubleshooting tips and all seems well except that the wampmariadb is not running and I receive error code: 1057.

Any assistance would be great. Let me know what other information you might need.

Thanks

Did you read the first dialog that the install shows to you?

Read all of this, but specifically the first page or so that talks about installing all Microsoft Visual C/C++ Redistributables

Hi,

As your Wampserver install is d:\wamp\ do that:

Open a command windows "as an administrator" (The word administrator MUST be in the title bar) and type:
fsutil fsinfo volumeinfo d:
There MUST be the word "NTFS" in the result.
If there is no NTFS, it is not worth continuing, Wampserver can only work on an NTFS disk

We will now look at the characteristics of NTFS formatting as the sizes of physical and logical sectors, with the command:
fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo d:
What is the result ?

To be able to give you a solution, do the same thing, but replace d: by c:

Hi,

For your drive D:
Bytes Per Sector : 4096
Bytes Per Physical Sector : 4096
Bytes Per Cluster : 4096
The size of logical sectors is the same as physical sectors and is 4096 bytes. This is called "4K native" and is called low-level formatting or factory formatting and cannot be changed by the user.
In many cases of native 4K formatting, Mysql and/or MariaDB can't work, especially for the InnoDB engine; don't ask me why, I don't know; that's a fact. It would seem that this is a misalignment between the beginning of the clusters and the beginning of the innoDB files.
It seems that Microsoft has corrected this problem with MySQL server, but it is unfortunately not the case with MySQL or MariaDB.

But, for your C: drire there is:
Bytes Per Sector : 512
Bytes Per Physical Sector : 512
Bytes Per Cluster : 4096
This is called 512 Native (512N) formatting and is fully compatible with MySQL and MariaDB.
I can only advise you to uninstall Wampserver from your D: drive and install it on your c: drive.

Huh, interesting. So this 'formatting' would be dependent on the hard drive that I buy? or does it involve the operating system?

Thank you!

Hi,

> So this 'formatting' would be dependent on the hard drive that I buy?
Yes. it is "factory formatting".
Very few sellers, either online or in stores, give this information.
And this cannot be changed by the user.

Hi,

To try to understand and solve this problem (I don't have a 4K Native hard drive), please do the following on your Wampserver installation on D: 4K native. I thank you for that.

We can try to create the MySQL data folder "by hand" and see what happens and, to avoid being bothered by MariaDB, we can start by not using it (temporarily) with Wampserver, so:
- Right-Click Wampmanager tray icon -> Wamp settings -> Allow MariaDB to uncheck it
We will now delete the MySQL service
- Left-Click Wampmanager tray icon -> MySQL -> Service administration -> Stop service
- Left-Click Wampmanager tray icon -> MySQL -> Service administration -> Remove service
And, to avoid having to spend time sorting out information from log files, we will empty them:
- Right-Click Wampmanager tray icon -> Tools -> Empty logs -> Empty all log files (Then y + Enter)

Exit Wampserver.

With Files Explorer, delete the totality of files and folders into wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.7.19\data\ and the folder data itself.
Note: We delete the data folder because it was created by MySQL itself.
With Files explorer (Right-Click New) we create the data folder wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.7.19\data\
Note: We create the data folder by the Windows system and not by MySQL
Exit Files Explorer

Open a command windows "as an administrator" (The word administrator MUST be in the title bar) on the folder wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.7.19\bin\
In this command windows type :
mysqld.exe --initialize-insecure

This will recreate the content of data folder

Launch Wampserver (Icon will be not green)
(mysql.log should be empty)
Install MySQL service
- Left-Click Wampmanager tray icon -> MySQL -> Service administration -> Install service
(mysql.log should be empty)
Start MySQL service
- Left-Click Wampmanager tray icon -> MySQL -> Service administration -> Start/Resume service
Icon should be green now and there is no error in mysql.log
2018-02-18T10:01:37.841538Z 0 [Warning] InnoDB: Resizing redo log from 2*3072 to 2*320 pages, LSN=2539324

2018-02-18T10:01:37.997538Z 0 [Warning] InnoDB: New log files created, LSN=2539324

This has just been done in real time on my J: disk, but it is not 4K native.
