URL not working without localhost

I was using Wamp 2.4 but had to uninstall it and install 3.0.6 with 3.0.8 update

I like the idea of using virtualhost especially with GUI form provided to create VH on the fly. So I created one for a project was working on prior to version 3.0.8. Now I edited the .htaccess and config file of codeigniter code I was working so that rather localhost/mysitefolder I can now navigate to mysitefolder.

The problem now is the homepage displays rightly at [mysitefolder] but when I try to navigate to any subpages I get this message on the browser
"Not Found The requested URL /financejobs.txt/index.php was not found on this server.
Apache/2.4.23 (Win32) PHP/5.6.25 Server at mysitefolder Port 80"

First I don't understand where the .txt extension is emanating from and I don't know how to go about fixing this.

Kindly advise.
