Error on install - undefined function mb_detect_encoding

Everything went so smoothly on install.
Everything fired up ok except I get this error when trying to get to phpmyadmin

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_detect_encoding() in W:\wamp64\apps\phpmyadmin4.6.4\libraries\php-gettext\gettext.inc on line 177

Installed in it's own partition and everything starts up. I spent 2 hours reading through the sticky posts and some other trouble shooting but havent' seen the exact error turn up in a search.

Also getting this

** ERROR *** The PHP configuration loaded file is: - should be: W:/wamp64/bin/apache/apache2.4.23/bin/php.ini or w:/wamp64/bin/php/php5.6.25/phpforapache.ini
You must perform: Right click - refresh....

the phpforapache.ini file is there. refresh does nothing

Able to get a virtual host up.

PhpSysinfo is also not working because of the mbstring extension which I'm sure is also related...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

State of services:

The service 'wampapache64' is started

The service 'wampmysqld64' is started

The service 'dnscache' is started

all services are started - it is OK

Hi,

Left-click Wampmanager tray icon -> Apache -> Version -> 2.4.23 Even if already checked
Left-click Wampmanager tray icon -> PHP -> Version -> 5.6.25 Even if already checked

Right-click Wampmanager tray icon -> Refresh

I tried it.
After refresh. Only got 1 of 2 services starting up now.
WAMP icon is now Orange ( it was Green before )

Still have the same error when trying to access phpmyAdmin

adminer works and i'm able to set up a virtual host with no problem.

Tried exiting and restarting all services still Orange.

ReBoot got me back to Green but still getting the same error for phpmyadmin

EDIT:
I noticed none of the extensions are loaded. Even tried adding
extension=mysqli.dll
extension=mbstring.dll
to php.ini but that doesn't work

I checked the other error logs and found:
Error while creating symlink 'W:/wamp64/bin/apache/apache2.4.23/bin/php.ini' to 'W:/wamp64/bin/php/php5.6.25/phpForApache.ini'

phpinfo is turning up nada mucho...

Back to DuckDuckGo > leads me to another thread on this forum.
Going to reinstall and start from scratch again.

Will keep this updating this post.

Re-installed Same Problem....
My Partition is exFAT which i dont thing supports symlinks.
Going to reformat the partitions and reinstall again.

Will keep this post updated:

That fixed the issue. exFAT doesn't support symlinks

Hope the 4 hours I spent on this helps someone else out!

Thanks

Hi,

What it is written in : WAMPserver 3 - All you need to know

Wampserver does not work on a FAT32 or exFAT drive. It only works on NTFS disk.
