Problems using WAMP

Installed Wamp for Windows 10 64. Had to change port 80 to 8080 to get to work. Everything worked fine other than designating a fake URL which never worked no matter what.

Problem is, every time I turn the computer off and then back on, Wamp doens't work anymore. I'm not very savvy in this and was using to practice web building with wordpress. Can't load any of my work now. Keep having to back up my sites and reinstall wamp every time and do the port change. Anyone able to help?

Hi,

> Installed Wamp for Windows 10 64.
Please: READ (and answer) BEFORE YOU ASK A QUESTION

> Had to change port 80 to 8080 to get to work
You did not apply the prerequisites displayed when installing wampserver.
Port 80 is reserved for the http protocol, therefore to Apache; It's not up to Apache to change ports, but to applications that use port 80 not to use it.
See item 03 and 08 of TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS but nothing will stop you from reading everything.

Note: For all the local sites and especially for applications like Wordpress, it is necessary to use the VirtualHosts, as with all the hosts: The need for Virtual Host

1 - Windows version used (Specify version number AND whether 32 or 64 bit)
Windows 10 64-bit
2 - Version WampServer (Specify version number AND whether 32 or 64 bit)
WAMP 3.0.6 64
3 - Apache Version
Apache 2.4.23
4 - PHP Version
5.6.25-7.0.10
5 - MySQL Version
5.7.14
6 - What color is the WampServer icon (in the notification area of the taskbar)
Red. If I install it, I change port from 80 to 8080 and it goes green. But if I restart computer and try again, it stays red.

When all goes well it should be green, but it may be red or orange.

If the WampServer icon is NOT GREEN please ensure you have looked at these files :-

Look closer at this

c - PHP error log ( wampmanager -> PHP -> PHP error log )
[30-Jan-2017 04:39:34 UTC] No error - Only to create the file
[30-Jan-2017 04:57:06 UTC] WordPress database error Unknown column 'wp_' in 'field list' for query SELECT wp_

That is either a code error of yours, or a WordPress setup error or you have not created and populated the database. Neither os which is anything to do with WAMPServer. Thats an application error.

I'm not sure what that error means. Or how to solve it. I'm just now learning this stuff. It works fine when I uninstall everything and reinstall it. As soon as I turn the computer off and back on, it does this over and over to where the symbol stays red.

Are you installing WAMPServer AND running WAMPServer as an Administrator?

Hi,

In the hosts file, you MUST also have:
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost

Changed it to localhost. Didn't solve anything. Changed it back because a tutorial I did set it up that way so I can fake a URL while navigating to the "site" while I'm making it.

What Otomatic ment was that you shoud have BOTH in your HOSTS file like this

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost

127.0.0.1 Aetas.dev
::1 Aetas.dev

You need define both localhost AND your Virtual Host definition, and maybe many other Virtual Host definitions like

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost

127.0.0.1 Aetas.dev
::1 Aetas.dev

127.0.0.1 Aetas.uat
::1 Aetas.uat
