How to connect to database?

Hi,
I want to know how to connect my website with MySQL database? Can you give me a step by step directions how to do it? I hope so much.

if you want to be able to admin your mysql server, use phpmyadmin:
[localhsot]

if you need to access with php, use mysql_connect function.
