PHPBB problem

everytime I try to freshly install PHPBB I get this message

An error occurred trying to update the database
The used table type doesn't support FULLTEXT indexes

how do I fix this little troublesome problem?

and oh yeah, I forgot to mention, this is one of the old PHPBB's not the version 2 that's out there.

not entirely sure wich version I'm using, but this wouldn't affect that much.. should it?

sorry, I'm a total newbie at this, so, here is another question, how do I change so that MyISAM is on or where do I change these functions?
