The icon is green. When i type "locahost" it alows me to enter but when i select any file which has the index.php in it, it says that chrome was unable to find the page. Until last night it was working perfectly, but suddenly it just stopped

First try changing your HOSTS file to

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1  localhost
