Access to alias forbidden

Version of Operating system? Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Version of Wamp Server installed? 2.5 32 bit
Version of Apache you are running? 2.4.9
Version of MySQL you are running? 5.6.17
Version of PHP you are running? 5.5.12

So I just installed wamp, the very first thing I did was create an alias doing the following steps.

"Add an alias"

test - location "c:/workspace/website/"

An index file made at c:/workspace/website/index.html

Alias is shown in localhost

navigating to it is forbidden

So what's the problem? I tried restarting all the services to no avail.
I can't see anything I did was different from this guy's tutorial [www.lynda.com] and all my searches on google are relating to /phpmyadmin/

It seems this is supposed to be an easy thing to do, so simple that there are no obvious errors. I don't know what's wrong.

Can I ask why you think you need to create an alias please.

Ok so alias's are not what you want to do.

Read this post, when you get to the bottom it tells you how to create a Virtual Host on a totally seperate folder structure i.e. outside the wamp folder structure.

Virtual host are a much better solution than alias's WAMPServer 2.5 The Homepage, Your Projects Menu and the need for Virtual Hosts

PS:

Watch out for WAMPServer tutorials on the web. Lets say, "One or two of the authors actually know what they are doing".

Okay, thanks. It seems to be working as it should. What are the point of aliases though? Shared files between projects/sites?
