Need help, installed WAMP to ultimately have local Wordpress install

My computer is Windows 7 Professional
Installed WAMP 2.5 (latest as of May 26, 2014)
Per the WAMP installation:
Apache: 2.4.9
PHP: 5.5.12
MySQL: 5.6.17

When I type c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts into my browser I get:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 localhost

Hello, i am completely new to all this. I have installed WAMP only to evaluate a local install of Wordpress. In order to install and evaluate Wordpress plugins, I need to have a local install. Based on this page, [www.wpbeginner.com] I have downloaded and installed WAMP. I got the MSVCR100.DLL error but fixed it, per your sticky and reinstalled WAMP.

When I run WAMP, my icon is red.
When I click localhost or PHPMyAdmin I get a blank screen in my browser.
Thus I cannot continue with the instructions in the above page on installing Wordpress.

Your help is appreciated on how I move forward. As mentioned, all I'm trying to do is get a local Wordpress installation going.

Steve

OK
1. Yo do not look at/edit c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts using a browser. You use an editor, notpad if you have nothing else but notepad++ would be better. Its free to download.

If your wampmanager icon is RED then both the Apache (wampapache) and MySQL (wampmysql) services have not started and therefore NOTHING will work.

Are you sure you do not have another install of Apache and or MySQL installed and running on your PC???
