serious help needed

can anyone recommend any basic starting from the beginning, not assuming anything, doesnt use the word obviously, for absolute dimwits kind of tutorial for mysql and php,
i have been reading books but they all assume readers have a basic knowledge, where does that basic knowledge come from? HELP

If you don't mind spending a bit of money, there's a nice video tutorial on lynda.com which guides you through everything step-by-step.
