I am new to the WAMP world. Can anyone tell me, is it possible to connect to a legacy Mysql database version 4.0.14?

Yes of course.
Does that mean you already have a MySQL server running on the PC running WAMPServer or is the legacy MySQL server running on another PC.

Thanks, RiggsFolly, that was a quick response!
I have just installed WAMP on one pc and the legacy db is on another one on my network. So WAMP is on MASTER and the old db is on LAPTOP02.
I get this message when I try to connect to it:
Warning: mysql_connect(): Connecting to 3.22,3.23 & 4.0 is not supported......

Ok so I guess that is too much legacy!!
Is it possible to upgrade the database to a V5.5?

It is not really feasible to upgrade the db at present as the system is very large and in use in several clients' organisations.
Is there any configuration that would work, for example can I 'downgrade' wamp and/or install it on the legacy pc?

You could install an old WAMP. You may possibly need to go back to a WAMP5 install.
That version of MySQL is 10 or more years old.
I cannot find a definitive version when php stopped supporting MySQL 4.0.x, sorry I could not be more helpful
