403 Forbidden WAMP 2.2

Hi All,

I just installed WAMP 2.2 (Apache 2.2.22 + MySQL 5.5.24 + PHP 5.3.13) on my Windows 8 Release Preview System.

During Installation I found "MSVCR100.dll Missing Error" . Fixed That and then re-installed.

When I visit "localhost" It shows the WAMP Server Homepage.

When I access "localhost/phpmyadmin/" or "localhost/webgrind/" I get a 403 Forbidden error.

Please help.
The server is online too.

thanks and regards,

Raisedadead.

Hey, I just typed 127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin into the address bar and got to somewhere that looks promising (like it might be the phpMyAdmin homepage). I've got my fingers crossed!

You need to edit your hosts file c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

W8 Preview has a odd one with no localhost defined

Make sure it contains
127.0.0.1 localhost

and preferable not

::1 localhost
if that exists comment it out with a # in column 1

NOTE on editing the Hosts file

The hosts file is protected by windows, in order to save it you must have Administrator privilages.
Vista/W7/W8 you may think you are an Administrator BUT YOU ARE NOT.

To successfully save the hosts file do this to launch your editor with Admin Privilages.

Locate your editors icon on the desktop or from the Start menus ( notepad will do if you have nothing else )
left click + shift over your chosen editor icon - will show a menu.
select "Run As Administrator" from the menu.
Navigate your editor to the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file.

When you have made changes you will now be allowed to save them.

hello

I "up" this message for vista and w7 (perhaps w8 too) :
I have tried the solution to change the hosts file, but I had always "403 forbidden", like for "www" and for "phpmyqdmin".

-> I have tried to "launch wampserver as administrator", and it works ! the service is reserved to the administrator, like a lot of directories until vista.

we could change a conf. file in wampserver directory, but I don't know more which one. "lounch as admin" is easier, finally !

it could work for other problems with vista, w7 and w8.
thanks to RiggsFolly, he has make me think to this solution :-)

(sorry for the bad english, I am french :-S)

Not quite sure what you did here, but wampserver is always launched as an adminitrator, only administrators are allowed to start services so it has to be.

.

Install TeamViewer and I will troubleshoot for you.

Install TV, then run it.

Send me a Private Message containing the TV ID and PASSWORD so I can connect.
Leave TV running as it will change the password each time you restart it.

PS. there is a French language forum here also!

to start wampserver we must open an administrator Windows session, perhaps, I haven't tried. but Windows consider us NoT as the administrator. we have permission to install applications, but not to uninstall all of them. for a few of applications, Windows tell us that we don't have de permission to uninstall or modify the files or the directories. like the hosts file and connect to "localhost" with wampserver, that is forbidden.
for uninstall these applications, we must change the permissions in right click + proprietes (on french PCs).

pink, what else colour should it be ?
do you think in France we have a tray version, we have not all the permissions ? I don't know but the wampserver's starting in not the same "as administrator" (right click) but as "user" (left click).

I meant the wampmanager icon that sits in the system tray while wamp is running, NOT the WampServer desktop icon.

oops, the icon is green.
I saw the favicon in the navigator for the wamp's home page that is pink, while I wrote the answer, and I have done this colour.
the wampmanager icon is green in the taskbar, but "servers offline" because I need wamp only offline.
