Browser Stuck on "Waiting"

Hi,

I recently moved to a new Windows 8 machine where I reinstalled WAMP and then copied my httpd.conf, databases, php.ini and a few other files (such as OpenSSL) across from my old PC.

I use a lot of different virtual hosts and the problem I have seems to only be effecting new hosts I have added since the computer switch (which makes no sense). Basically when I try to browse to a page under a local path. e.g.

"dev.mylocalhost.com" (where dev.mylocalhost.com is mapped to 127.0.0.1 in hosts file)

My browser just hangs on "waiting" for an eternity. However as soon as I restart the apache service the website immediately loads in my browser. It then continues to work okay until I browse to a different host e.g.

"dev.myotherlocalhost.com"

at which point it stalls again until I restart the apache service. Sometimes after browsing a problematic host for a while the problem may also reappear.

I had to hack about a bit with my config to get WAMP working so I'm pretty sure that I have screwed up in there somehow but I have no idea how to start debugging this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Olly

I don't sadly steve - is it something I could download?

My httpd.conf is below though (there are a lot of bodges in there but all the virtual host stuff has been working fine until this computer switch):

#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:[httpd.apache.org]; for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:[httpd.apache.org];
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2" will be interpreted by the
# server as "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/logs/foo.log".
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache"winking smiley.
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located
# will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "c:/wamp/bin/apache/apache2.4.2"

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80

I reinstalled the apache service and it seems to be a lot happier now. Not sure if it's fixed or not but it's certainly better for now

No it's not fixed, worked briefly but it's spooned again. What would it work for a while after the service restarts then stop working?

Hi Steve,

I've downloaded teamviewer. Let me know if you're free any time today to take a look.

Cheers,

Olly

Hi again,

The information in this thread seems to have fixed my problem (although not calling it fixed just yet!)

In short these values should be set in the httpd.conf:

TraceEnable off
AcceptFilter http none
AcceptFilter https none
EnableMMAP off
EnableSendfile off

Also some guys recommend this but I'm not sure if you need it for WAMP:

Mpm module loaded with the following config :
<IfModule mpm_winnt_module>
ThreadsPerChild 150
MaxConnectionsPerChild 0
</IfModule>
