MySQL database on external drive

Hi,

I'm having troubles moving my database from my internal harddisk to an USB-drive.

using Windows 7 ultimate 64bits, sp1, intel i7, 16Gb memory
wampserver version 2.2 / MySQL 5.5.24

I've done this before a couple of times without any problem :
open my.ini
copy & paste line containing datadir=
comment the first line
change the second line to point datadir to new directory on another location
restart all services

Now I'd like to do that same thing pointing datadir to a directory on an external drive, but Wampserver won't start the MySQL-service !!

I'm aware of using the forward slash in a path

Can anyone help me out please ?

Thanks,
Hirokazu

what do you mean with "all mapped cable connected drives work for this" ? I have a USB-drive connected, is mapped as drive M:, can be found by Windows. Though MySQL won't connect ...
