New Install, HTTP 403 Error - This website requires you to log in.

I've just installed Wamp, when checking that the install was successful and working properly, I get the 403 error when launching phpmyadmin for the first time. I've gone through the forum treads, but cannot locate a document for this specific problem. I have tried changing the config.inc.php file to allow no password to false, but I still get the same error, my browser does not present a log in box. Does anyone know how to correct this problem?

what kind of log in box?

its probably nothing to do with phpmyadmin.

its probably that you IIS installed

I did the install for a test environment on my laptop I have not turned on the IIS services, is that my problem?

I hate to be dense, but I haven't installed it. I'm running Windows Vista on my laptop, I looked at services running and IIS is not running at all. This is a Windows feature you can turn.

Hello Steven... first thank you for your help. I want to start from the beginning with my problem explanation. I have a new install of Wamp on my laptop running 32bit Windows Vista. I am following the guide to test a new installation of Wamp to make sure it is running correctly. The localhost homepage is working correctly. After the step to test the localhost homepage from the menu, the next step is to launch phpMyadmin from the menu. When I left click phpMyadmin from the menu, my IE 9 browser is launched displaying the HTTP 403 error - This website requires you to log in. Please advise the new steps I should take to correct this problem.

I have the same issue. I don't have IIS I just have Windows 7 and have not installed IIS.

Did you solve the problem?

Have you checked the HOSTS file has a reference to localhost?

it should contain

localhost 127.0.0.1

If it contains

localhost ::1

Comment this out with a # in col1
