I got this error until I opened httpd.conf and created a <Directory> node for my web site. In the node I put nothing but this:

AllowOverride None
Options None
Require all granted

Dear Steven Martin,

How do I solve my own 403 forbidden error? IE is telling me that I am required to log in in order to view the page and Firefox simply doesn't allow access. There is no dialog box coming up to log in. is there a configuration file I need to update? should I be updating the etc-hosts file in Windows?

Sincerely,
markerline

Possibly the hosts file

Have you tried to use. Http ://127.0.0.1

i think i did try that.

as it stands i found a fix, or actually two fixes. the first impacts the inability to access localhost. the second impacts the inability to access phpmyAdmin.

in effect i had to edit some configuration files for apache and for php and i also had to make sure i set my server to be online. that latter fact was one of the major reasons why i couldn't access anything but the youtube video tutorials that i saw for installation never stated anything about making sure this option was enabled, i guess because they assumed in their case that this feature would be enabled by default upon installation.

i will only make the feature online when i am working on a database and otherwise disable wampserver for security reasons.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
