WampServer doesn't open a browserwindow upon clicking the icon

I have just installed WampServer (a couple of times), ticked the box that says Launch WampServer, but then nothing happens

I have installed it pointing to the default IE, I have in another install pointed to Chrome. But either way nothing happens when trying to open it

I run Windows 8.1 - 64 bit
I chose the WampServer 64-bit version.

Sincerely hope, that someone out there can help.

Kind regards
Torben

Hi Torben

Have you installed :-The 2012 Redist is used by Apache ?

Links available here [forum.wampserver.com]

Its best to install the 32 and 64 bit versions of these runtime libraries. You shoudl only neeb the 2012 library.

Hi and thanks for helping out.
I did what you suggested, downloaded and installed all the redistributabals, checked Windows Update, installed a further update to the 2010 versions, but, alas
After a reboot nothing had changed.
I still cannot open a browser window by clicking the Wampserver shortcut icon.

Hi,

Wampserver must be installed launched and used only from Windows desktop, not from the "tiles Windows".
When you launch Wampserver, an W green icon must be seen in the notification zone of the taskbar.

Thanks again,
I have no "W" in the taskbar. I have a "W" in the hidden icons in the taskbar. It is reddish and saying: WAMPSERVER - Server offline
I (try to) start WampServer from a shortcut icon that was placed on my desktop during installation.

Hi,

You have to drag this icon in the notification zone and use the menu in it.

Otomatic,
I dragged the W onto the taskbar. Here I find the same menu as when left-clicking the W in hidden icons.
I click Start all Services. But seemingly nothing happens. When trying to set WampServer online, I am told (err. msg.) that the service has not been started.

Kind regards
Torben

Uninstall Skype.

The answer is not to uninstall Skype. I cannot work without Skype.
The answer is to open in Notepad++ (or Notepad) the file: httpd.conf, then find the following lines:

#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 0.0.0.0:80
Listen [::0]:80
and change them to

#Listen 12.34.56.78:81
Listen 0.0.0.0:81
Listen [::0]:81

This will open a new browser window, if you in the WampServer menu click on phpMyAdmin

However,
the URL localhost/phpmyadmin
yields a HTTP ERROR 404.0

How do I set up the virtual path to the phpMyAdmin directory?

Kind regards
Torben

Make skype not use port 80.

Didn't do the trick.
My Skype is now using port 81 and I have reset httpd.conf to using port 80.
But, I still get the HTTP 404

Yes, the "W" is green

HTTP Error 404 says "page not found"

Hi,

Clear the cache of the browser (Ctrl-F5) and try with another browser (Firefox, Opera, etc.) with writing (http://localhost/) (without the parentheses) in the adress bar.

With a correct text editor, for example Notepad++, open the file

windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts

Valid lines, that is to say without # at the beginning, must be only:
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost
