WampServer

I hope someone will kindly be able to help me with the muddle my WampServer installation is in.
I have tried to provide useful but succinct information. Thanking you in advance.

(1) Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit OS
(2) Wampserver 2.2 (I do not know where to find the 32/64 bit info. I did not do the installation.)
(3) Apache 2.2.21
(4) PHP 5.3.10
(5) MySQL 5.5.20
(6) WampServer icon: orange
(6a) Apache error log: It goes back to 2012!

(6d) There are no errors in the Windows Event Viewer.

(8) I do not have access to localhost.
(9) I do not have access to phpMyAdmin.
(10) There is no explicit error message, but
(10a) first an associated computer on the WampServer hub [zorro:8085] could not access files except after a bodge of calling another file first (so clearing a cache?).
(10b) then MySQL components failed to display in local server web pages (still displaying correctly on the online versions at [www.abelard.org]). This means that on pages in the /news/ directory, only the first article displays, without the Google ads down the side.

1 I am alright at following instructions but understand little why things do or don't work. The local Wamp server was set up by someone else who is currently unavailable to help
2 This problem started with my computer [zorro:8083] running at 100% CPU and not being able to delete programs because I did not have the necessary permissions, even though my account is supposedly at Administrator level.
3 I ran tweak.com's Windows repair and the CPU calmed down and I was able to delete several uninvited grubby programs.
4 Since then I have the problems described in (10). I have looked for solutions on the net, and none have been useful, mostly just making my head spin. I am exhausted by restarting my computer, and would be grateful for some understandable help. I am scared of reinstalling WampServer as I don't want to make things worse.
4 don't know whether this is relevant but, from a couple of days ago, when I start WampServer, Microsoft (blue and yellow shield) darkens the screen and asks whether I want ro run this program from an unknown publisher. This is not happening for any other currently installed program I've used.

Lets start with the obvious

(6) WampServer icon: orange

Does wampmanager start up, in an orange state, or does it become orange after some time, i.e. after either Apache or MySQL has crashed?

If the Wampmanager icon is Orange, it means that one of the services, either Apache or MySQL has not started.
We need to find out which one has not started.

The simplest way is to look at the colour of the menu items under the service menu

wampmanager -> Apache -> Service -> Start Resume service
wampmanager -> MySQL -> Service -> Start Resume service

If the 'Start Resume service' menu item is grey'ed out then the service is started. If it is green and clickable then the service is not started.

Which service has not started??

Wampserver icon starts up red and then goes to orange. The icon does not reach green.

wampmanager -> Apache -> Service -> Start Resume service is greyed out/not started.

1000 apologise, I always get that the wrong way round.

If the 'Start Resume service' menu item is Green and Clickable then the service is NOT starts.


So I assume Apache is started and therefore MySQL is NOT started.

In that case look at the mysql error log

- wampmanager -> MySQL -> MySQL log

This should open the log file in notepad.

If the file is empty of does not exist
-- look at the windows event viewer for errors generated by MYSQL
else
-- paste some errors from your mysql error log

So we must have been having prob.s since the 24th February afternoon - sigh.

Well those look like standard Startup and shutdown messages.
There are no errors in there.

But if it has not started since 24 Feb then we now need to look at : -


The windows event viewer
--- Windows Key + R to launch the run dialog then enter eventvwr.exe and press the OK button
--- - On the left side of the windows click 'Windows Logs -> Applications'
--- - Look for the name 'MySQL' in the Source column which have a error symbol in the first column.

Paste some sample errors if they exist.

I have looked in the windows event viewer and there are no error entries for MySQL.

bounce (sorry, impatience is getting to me)

Both Apache and MySQL write messages into the Windows Event Viewer.
They can have a level of "Information" "Warning" or "Error"

What are you getting from MySQL

They are not error messages they are just startup informational messages.

It still all seems to lead back to the simple issue that

That woudl make me think that APache and MySQL are all FINE, but when you restored the live database to the test machine you did not either

1. Create the MYSQL user tithonus_4_r
or
2. You did create the MYSQL user tithonus_4_r but the password you set was not correct.
or
3. The MYSQL user and password exist and with the correct password but you did not recreate the correct privilages for that user on the database(s) that that MYSQL user is trying to access.


Remember that a MYSQL EXPORT of a specific database does not export the user accounts and database access privilages. So when you IMPORT the database on a new MySQL Server you have to also recreate the user accounts and access privilages along with the domains that a user account is allowed to login from.
