Symbolic MySQL Databases On Windows - Can't Get To Work?

I have switched over to WampServer but I can't get Symbolic MySQL databases working.

Does anyone know if they work under WampServer?

See this URL [dev.mysql.com]

I have tried every single permutation possible (with \ without trailing \, rebooting after each change, no spaces in pathname, spaces in pathnames etc.)

I am using WampServer 2.1e.

Thanks

Does not work for me. Do you need to change any other settings to get it to work?

D:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.5.8\data\mytest.sym containing the text D:\mytest

The D:\mytest folder exists (have tried with and without myd files in it).

When I load phpMyAdmin the database is not listed. I have Restarted All Services after changing/adding any text files.

Any further suggestions?

Thanks

well the only two things are mentioned on the mysql site

If you already have a database directory named "mytest" in the data directory D:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.5.8\data\mytest.sym the symbolic link will be ineffective.

and To avoid problems, make sure that the server is not running when you move the database directory.

It is a complete fresh install there are no existing databases etc - so they can't exist etc. This is very infuriating - a whole afternoon so far 6+ hours wasted just trying permutations to get symbolic links working. Could you post what is in your files and the folder paths etc as it must be something straightforward which I know will be even more annoying when I find out what it is. Thanks.

Thanks very much for the kind offer but I rather not have to share my machine.

Is there a method of finding out if MySQL is even picking up / searching for the sym file?

I guess it either does not like being installed on D: or there is something else very funny about my setup.

This bug seems to indicate MySQL 5.5.8 Symbolic links are not working [bugs.mysql.com] ?

Strange that is works on yours - the plot thickens - I know the solution will be simple!

Stupid computers!

That's probably it - is 5.1.58 available to download - or what is the best MySQL addon to use if 5.5.x is not working for what I need? TIA

Success 5.1.54 works with symbolic links.

In the old mysql 5.5.8 data folder there is a folder called performance_schema do I move this to the new 5.1.54 data folder or is this not for the 5.1.54 release and can be ignored?

I want to tidy up and delete the mysql558 folder?

Thanks
