Hopefully this can help someone:
I was trying to set the default storage engine to be InnoDB so I don't have to keep switching it in phpmyadmin.
Everything I read says to update the "default-storage-engine" line in my.ini file, but that line does not exist in that file.
I just added it like this:
default-storage-engine = innodb
Now in phpmyadmin, the dropdown is always innodb by default.
