Problems installing/running Joomla on Wamp

1 - Windows 7 64 bit
2 - WampServer 2.5 32 bit
3 - Apache 2.4.9
4 - PHP 5.5.12
5 - MySQL 5.6.17
6 - What color is the WampServer icon: it's green.

Some copy/paste from the Joomla forum where I tried to get help for this problem before:

Immediately after finishing installing Wamp (32bit) I copy/paste the Joomla Full Package 3.3.6 into it's own folder under the www folder. That's where I unzip all the files, delete the package file I unzipped it all from and according to instructions, I should then open localhost followed by a click on the link and the name of the folder I created to unzip all files in. But nothing that I expect is happening. Nothing that is supposed to follow according to the [youtube] videos is happening. Instead, I get a message saying that the web page wasn't found (Chrome) or the server couldn't be found (Firefox). Consequently, I can't install Joomla. What am I doing wrong?

Are the Apache and MySQL services running? The colour of the Wamp icon in the system tray is green if they are running. --- Yes, they are running. When I want to click on the directory Joomla 3.3 on the Wamp start screen it doesn't respond.

You can also use an option in the Apache menu of the Wamp icon to see if the HTTP port 80 is in use by some other application. --- The answer that I get returned is:
[Your port 80 is actually used by:
Server: Apache/2.4.9 (Win32) PHP/5.5.12
Press Enter to exit... ]

Did you add the folder you created as an alias to the Wamp configuration? --- I'm not sure what you mean by that. I extracted Joomla in the www directory as shown in this video: [www.youtube.com]

I hope someone can help me with this problem.

Please show me a directory tree representation below the www folder.

Joomla runs just fine so it must be something that is not right about your unzipping

Hey Jared.
You can easily upload images using the following websites:
[postimage.org]
[tinypic.com]

Once uploaded, just paste the link here. Or use a format code:
[ i m g ] <image link> [ / i m g ] WITHOUT THE SPACES

Also, I'm using PhPFox with WAMP; Which runs on the same principle as Joomla. My folder is located in the D drive as such:

D:\MyWebsite\mywebsite.com\www

The folders in it are the actual ZIP contents:
file
include
module
static
theme
favicon.ico
etc...

Hope that sheds light on your problem!z

When in doubt, hit it with a potato. For some reason, that always seems to fix everything...

jrd,

A simple text representation will do

C:\wamp
|-- www
| -- project1

for example

You could try removing any spaces from the folder names.

What do you mean? What seems to be the problem with the www folder, then?

The www\Joomla 3.3 folder name has a space betewen 'joomla' and '3.3'.

Also, and this is not the problem, but it is better to stick to all lower case names for folders and .php, .html, etc

Thanks. I've corrected all of that now.

It doesn't do the trick, however. When I go to localhost, I get the Wamp-menu and click on joomla3.3. The browser indicates it's searching for the web server but then soon the error message that the server hasn't been found appears. What am I doing wrong or what is wrong with the installation? How can I start truly installing Joomla 3.3 on my computer with Wamp?

In another tutorial that I found on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu9pwDvB4W4) it shows a very basic screen just before installing Joomla but I never seem to be getting to that point. I just get the Wamp-menu screen and I can't click on anything that's relevant for installing Joomla. I've made a database using phpMyAdmin but that's the farthest I get.

Make sure you put joomla into the \wamp\www\joomla folder and not \wamp\www\joomla\joomla

I've done all that. Joomla is installed in a "Joomla"-folder directly under wamp\www. It was never different.

Well something is pbviously wrong but from this distance I cannot think what it could be.

I can say that joomla 3 does run in WAMPServer, I have Joomla 1.5 and 3.4 running right now as I am doing a migration at this very moment.

If you would like to try a Team Viewer session, we can connect up and I can have a look at exactly what is going on.
If thats acceptable, install Team Viewer, its free for casual use like this. Send me a Private Message to arrange a rough time for us to connect up. I am in the GMT timezone (UK), usually available during office hours and often late into the evening.
