i have been trying from the last 3 days, and now its getting frustrating. i have used wamp 2.0 on the same system earlier.

now i am trying to use wamp 2.1 on my windows 7, 64 bit version.

>> i am stuck with a GREEN wamp icon that says "WAMPSERVER - server online" when i hover the cursor over it.

>> when i go to localhost, or 127.0.0.1, i get "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to localhost". (Firefox, explorer aren't making any wonders either.)

>> when i go to the wamp tray and click on Test Port 80, i get "This port is not actually used" (what DOES this mean)

>> i have already gone to the hosts file and commented everyhitng except for "127.0.0.1 localhost"

>> i DONT have skype.

PLEASE HELP ME HERE...i would be greatly obliged.

It means that nothing on your computer is using port 80. By default, WAMP uses port 80. It seems after your upgrade, WAMP stop using port 80. From the WAMP menu, select Apache then http.conf. Next, confirm if this line of code exists in the file"

Listen 80

yes, Listen 80 exists.

btw, does this also mean that Apache is NOT using port 80 (that it is supposed to by defualt, right) ?

You are correct.

I know sometimes WAMP can be tricky to get to work sometimes. I can't think of any other advice but I wish you good luck to get your server to work again.

i just realized that i have a bad install of oracle 10g that hadn't been uninstalled completely/correctly. i am still not able to uninstall it.

do you think that might be the reason ? do you think oracle might be interfering even though i am not running it?

i am contemplating a reinstall of windows...

thanks for the responses.
