import to mysql via mysql console

Hello people,
do you know how to import to DB using mysql console?
I think it shoud be something like
mysql -u root -p mydb < myfiletoimport.sql;

the problem is when I connect with mysql comand line I'm already inside mysql and cannot use that comand.

any help?
