Can't access by external IP from local computer

I have a very strange access issue with WAMP after switching Internet Providers.

- I can access my WAMP server by typing in my external IP from outside the network and it loads fine
- I can access it locally by typing localhost
- I can't access it by typing the external IP from my own local computer

It just times out and doesn't record an error in apache error log meaning it's getting blocked somewhere along the line I would think.

I just changed Internet providers and I'm wondering if they can somehow block that on their end? I've set up the port forwarding as usual and nothing else has changed that I can think of in my httpd.conf file.

Any suggestions? Is there an inbound/outbound rule I need to apply to give myself external access? This worked fine previously with my old Internet provider and I've wasted hours trying to fix this.

Help is appreciated!

Thanks

Hi,

You can not access your local sites from the WAN IP address of that PC.
To do this you need to install and parameterize a driver named "Local LoopBack"; it is neither easy nor certain to run correctly.

I've always accessed my alias sites by just typing my WAN IP from my local machine until switching providers yesterday. It means any absolute paths referencing the external IP can't be seen or viewed on my machine which is a big problem especially with wordpress that uses absolute paths for links & images.

If the only thing that has changed is your service provider........

Ask them if they are blocking access to port 80. Some do!
