No matter what I do I can not get port forwarding to work, is that because I intsalled wampserver in E: and not C: drive?

try from another computer outside of the network

its normal to get your router when you try your ip inside the network

Thanks, i've tested this now - nope it does not connect to my router but I sitll don't connect to wampserver either, there must be something in windows 7 ultimate that is blocking it. every port forwarding thing i read proves i've done that right.

Not sure how it works on your router.

On a Netgear - You create a service with a name related to the app or reason for port forwarding, in this case i would put "web_svr" then port "80"

Then I would go to Port Forwarding select the service I just made, input the local IP address on the web server ie in my set up I have DHCP set up but all PCs and devices a reserved an IP linked to there MAC address so every time they connect they are giving the same IP.

say the IP of you web server is "192.168.0.5" or "10.0.0.5" now port 80 is linked to that PC.

From here you could go to a mates place type [yourinternetip] hit enter... what this will do is go looking for that IP address find your router then your router knows someone is trying to access port 80 it forwards this on to the Web Server where WAMP is running then theres your web site.

from here you can buy a Domain Name link your Domain Name to your internet IP on a DNS Server so when you type your Domain Name ie [www.Johnsmith.com] or .net the DNS servers will link that Name to your Internet IP to your router then forward to your Web server.

As for windows 7... I wouldn't bother trying to work out its firewall its good stops more then Vista n XP but much more complex to allow things in and out. I would recommend a separate PC or at the very least duel boot into XP SP2.

Regards,
Mynty
